SURVEY: For those folks who have either lost a beloved pet or had their pet's health damaged/compromised after a visit to their veterinarian, you are invited to participate in an ongoing informational survey which will be posted on the site: http://rimadyldeath.com. The purpose of this survey is to provide information on the Internet for all to see regarding the ongoing death/damage toll after veterinarian visits, as well as to provide readers with true experience stories regarding what veterinarians are telling pet owners for the page titled: "VET TAILS", in order to get some insights via "patterns" into general veterinarian care. To participate in this survey, just copy/paste the complete blank survey form provided here, fill in your own responses and e-mail it directly to: GingerLSanchez@aol.com:

2: Pet's name/species/breed/sex/age: Sedona/Maltese Dog/Female/2 1/2 years
3: What 'drug' [or vaccination] your pet was given [Rimadyl, ProHeart6, Deramaxx, puppy shots, rabies, etc.] that resulted in a possible/suspected ADE [adverse drug reaction], and if known, the drug manufacturer name: Metacam
4: The approximate date of the event: October, 2004
5: The adverse reaction[s] YOU observed and/or became aware of [nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, inability to walk, gastric ulceration, liver failure, kidney damage, death, lethargy, aggression, etc.] - please list ALL known and/or suspected symptoms/conditions:
I did not have a necropsy performed on my Sedona. She had a c-section, was given Metacam for pain, and she died in my arms four hours later. She never really seemed to recover from the anesthesia and was panting heavily. I called my Vet and explained what she was doing. He advised me to give her Cal-Pho-Sol because he thought she was going into eclampsia, even though she was not nursing.
6: What State, Country or Province this occurred in: Florida, USA
7: Whether or not your veterinarian informed you of the potential/possible risks/side effects BEFORE dispensing the named drug/vaccination, stating whether such information was provided verbally and/or in written form: None was given. On the contrary, he assured me it was safe.
8: Where you learned about the potential/possible risks/side effects of the drug/vaccination [i.e., www.srdogs.com, group list, friend, Internet research, TV/news, etc.]: Romi's Website
9: State whether or not you would still have allowed the drug/vaccination to be given to your pet had you KNOWN of the potential/possible risks/side effects: NEVER!! The love of my life died in my arms.
10: The original reason you took your pet to the veterinarian [toenail clipping, vaccinations, injury, any symptoms]: C-Section
11: How was your pet's health/life affected after the drug/vaccination? She died.
12: If you question the truth/accuracy of anything your veterinarian told you about your pet's health, etc., you may use this area to "air" your doubts/concerns: I believe that the Vets should give disclosures on all vaccinations, drugs, x-rays, etc so that we can make informed decisions, rather than blindly trust the Vet.
13: Permission to post email address with Survey, ADEs Memorials page, and/or "VET TAILS" page?: Yes
1: State your e-mail address: xandert@cableone.net
2: Pet's name/species/breed/sex/age: Annie, dog, border collie/GSD cross, spayed female, 7 yrs this past December (2004)
3: What 'drug' [or vaccination] your pet was given [Rimadyl, ProHeart6, Deramaxx, puppy shots, rabies, etc.] that resulted in a possible/suspected ADE [adverse drug reaction], and if known, the drug manufacturer name: Can't recall the brand name, both reactions were to rabies vaccination
4: The approximate date of the event: March 1999 & March 2002
5: The adverse reaction[s] YOU observed and/or became aware of [nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, inability to walk, gastric ulceration, liver failure, kidney damage, death, lethargy, aggression, etc.] - please list ALL known and/or suspected symptoms/conditions: March 1999, severe dog aggression, which waned off after about a month; March 2002, severe dog aggression and what we now recognize as focal seizures. The aggression waned off after about a month, but has recurred since then without further vaccination. The focal seizures are permanent. They never went away.
6: What State, Country or Provence this occurred in: Cochise County, Arizona
7: Whether or not your veterinarian informed you of the potential/possible risks/side effects BEFORE dispensing the named drug/vaccination, stating whether such information was provided verbally and/or in written form: NO! Not a word. :(
8: Where you learned about the potential/possible risks/side effects of the drug/vaccination [i.e., www.srdogs.com, group list, friend, Internet research, TV/news, etc.]: Internet research, reading books, various Yahoo groups
9: State whether or not you would still have allowed the drug/vaccination to be given to your pet had you KNOWN of the potential/possible risks/side effects: State law does not allow for exemptions, even for medical reasons, in Arizona. If I had known the March 2002 vaccination would spur seizures, I would have tried to find some way out of it.
10: The original reason you took your pet to the veterinarian [toenail clipping, vaccinations, injury, any symptoms]: Annual physical and vaccination.
11: How was your pet's health/life affected after the drug/vaccination? Permanent focal seizures which may eventually become full blown grand mal seizures. The seizures have affected her tolerance for frustration, her focus, her short-term and long-term memory, and her behavior in a BIG way.
12: If you question the truth/accuracy of anything your veterinarian told you about your pet's health, etc., you may use this area to "air" your doubts/concerns: I haven't talked to my previous vet about Annie's health problems. I quit taking my pets to that clinic after everything we went through with Xander. (Xander is listed as #65)

12: If you question the truth/accuracy of anything your veterinarian told you about your pet's health, etc., you may use this area to "air" your doubts/concerns: As far as any doubts I have about my Vet’s original diagnosis, I believe he was correct in diagnosing the arthritis. We looked at the ex-ray together and I saw the small spaces it was causing between her bones. I do believe I should have gone w/the natural treatments I had planned on. Hey, the Rimadyl was only for a week, and she did seem to feel better……I pray I can save even just one dog and one dog-lover from the pain I have experienced.
13: Permission to post email address with Survey, ADEs Memorials page, and/or "VET TAILS" page?: Yes you may include my email address.

2: Pet's name/species/breed/sex/age: Name: Kip, Species: Dog, Breed: Malamute/Husky Mix, Sex: Male, Age: 10 (born: 12/7/1994)
3: What 'drug' [or vaccination] your pet was given [Rimadyl, ProHeart6, Deramaxx, puppy shots, rabies, etc.] that resulted in a possible/suspected ADE [adverse drug reaction], and if known, the drug manufacturer name: Rimadyl (Pfizer)
4: The approximate date of the event: Found dead at vet's office 7am on Thurs., 2/10/2005 (2 days following surgery to repair a torn ACL in hind leg)
5: The adverse reaction[s] YOU observed and/or became aware of [nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, inability to walk, gastric ulceration, liver failure, kidney damage, death, lethargy, aggression, etc.] - please list ALL known and/or suspected symptoms/conditions: Kip was lethargic, didn't want to eat, and when let outside kept eating snow (probably to ease the burning in his stomach!)
6: What State, Country or Provence this occurred in: Wisconsin
7: Whether or not your veterinarian informed you of the potential/possible risks/side effects BEFORE dispensing the named drug/vaccination, stating whether such information was provided verbally and/or in written form: No information was given. Just handed me a bottle of pills and told me when to give them to Kip
8: Where you learned about the potential/possible risks/side effects of the drug/vaccination [i.e., www.srdogs.com, group list, friend, Internet research, TV/news, etc.]: via internet after Kip's death
9: State whether or not you would still have allowed the drug/vaccination to be given to your pet had you KNOWN of the potential/possible risks/side effects: NO
10: The original reason you took your pet to the veterinarian [toenail clipping, vaccinations, injury, any symptoms]: Kip was let out to go "potty" on Saturday afternoon (1/29). Came in the house and couldn't put weight on his hind leg. Thought he pulled a muscle, or something, so watched him over the weekend. Did not improve, so took him to vet on Monday (1/31) and was told that he tore his ACL. We could have surgery or just let it be (and risk arthritis setting in). Chose the surgery because we expected many more years of companionship. Surgery was scheduled for the following Tues. (2/8) and was told to give Kip Rimadyl 2x a day for pain/inflammation until the surgery.
11: How was your pet's health/life affected after the drug/vaccination? He died (necropsy report states he died from gastric rupture and peritonitis, most logically caused by sensitivity to Rimadyl. The hole in his stomach was the size of a softball!) Kip joined our family at the age of 12 weeks, and in his entire life, the only times he had been to the vet were for his yearly check-ups and immunizations. He was an extraordinarily healthy dog -- never got sick, never got injured, had an absolutely clean medical record. There were no pre-existing conditions and pre-surgical blood tests all came out "clean."

It was an irresponsible decision made by her Vet.

4: The approximate date of the event: April 2005
5: The adverse reaction[s] YOU observed and/or became aware of [nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, inability to walk, gastric ulceration, liver failure, kidney damage, death, lethargy, aggression, etc.] - please list ALL known and/or suspected symptoms/conditions: : diarrhea and diabetes
6: What State, Country or Provence this occurred in: New York
7: Whether or not your veterinarian informed you of the potential/possible risks/side effects BEFORE dispensing the named drug/vaccination, stating whether such information was provided verbally and/or in written form: Veterinarians do not inform of the possible risks of overvaccination (especially in small breeds). They just continue to send reminders of past due vaccinations when there have been studies indicating that annual vaccinations are not necessary: Dr. Ronald Schultz, Chairman of Pathobiological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, is at the forefront of vaccine research and is one of the world's leading authorities on veterinary vaccines. His challenge study results form the scientific base of the American Animal Hospital Association's (AAHA) 2003 Canine Vaccine Guidelines, Recommendations, and Supporting Literature (Attachment 7). These studies are based on science - they are not arbitrary. The public, however, cannot access this data. The American Animal Hospital Association only makes this report available to veterinarians, not private citizens, and Maine's pet owners are unaware that the AAHA Guidelines state on Page 18 that: "We now know that booster injections are of no value in dogs already immune, and immunity from distemper infection and vaccination lasts for a minimum of 7 years based on challenge studies and up to 15 years (a lifetime) based on antibody titer." They further state that hepatitis and parvovirus vaccines have been proven to protect for a minimum of 7 years by challenge and up to 9 and 10 years based on antibody count.
My dog developed Inflammatory Bowel Disease after receiving annual vaccinations. She had been very allergic to vaccines in the past and required an injection of benadryl along with the shots. The vet NEVER expressed any concern over this. From website:" I believe the massive vaccination program for canine parvovirus, which began some thirty plus years after we began vaccinating cats with feline parvovirus (panleukopenia virus), is creating this situation in dogs. If this is true, then the imminent future bodes poorly for dogs if the problem in cats is an indication. Furthermore, we have been seeing inflammatory bowel disease in dogs over the past five to ten years. Prior to this it was virtually nonexistent. I am certain that vaccination for parvovirus and coronavirus is a major cause. I commonly see inflammatory bowel disease that arises within a month or two after vaccination for one of these viruses."
I also believe after reading this that her Diabetes and my 15 year old Miniature Pinscher's Diabetes (strange TWO Min Pins developed diabetes) is a result of the auto immune suppressive effects of overimmunization.
8: Where you learned about the potential/possible risks/side effects of the drug/vaccination [i.e., www.srdogs.com, group list, friend, Internet research, TV/news, etc.]: http://www.vaccinetruth.org/animal_vaccines.htm
9: State whether or not you would still have allowed the drug/vaccination to be given to your pet had you KNOWN of the potential/possible risks/side effects: I will not continue to vaccinate my animals (despite the fact that the Vet even recommends full vaccination of my 15 year old diabetic dog). And I strongly suggest that other pet owners become informed as to the risks they are exposing their pets to.
10: The original reason you took your pet to the veterinarian [toenail clipping, vaccinations, injury, any symptoms]: Chronic diarrhea that developed after inoculations
11: How was your pet's health/life affected after the drug/vaccination? Chronic diarrhea. I am currently trying a Holistic Vet, but the dog is not responding well.
12: If you question the truth/accuracy of anything your veterinarian told you about your pet's health, etc., you may use this area to "air" your doubts/concerns: I am convinced after reading (see website cited above) that vaccinations are arbitrarily determined to be necessary (erroneously) on a yearly basis ONLY FOR THE MONEY MAKING POTENTIAL for the vets (and the drug companies)...Much of the vet's revenue comes from charging $15-$20 for a vaccine that costs 60 to 95 CENTS. Legislation for disclosure to the public has been initiated in various states so that pet owners will not jeopardize their pet's health (as my pet's was jeopardized). Furthermore my vet has refused to treat my dog unless I submit her to an endoscopy at the cost of $1300 which I cannot afford to pay.

Our vet gave us samples of Rimadyl for his hip pain and assured us the drug was extremely safe and that he had hundreds of dogs on it. We gave Jerry a dose a 6:00pm. By 9:00, we let him out to go to the bathroom and he was laying in the rain in the yard even though he hated to get wet. His eyes were glassy and he seemed confused when we called to him. He stumbled and his back legs were not working. I called the emergency line at our vet, and they assured me that he was probably just nauseous from the medicine. My husband had to carry him up to the bedroom, and we stayed up with him all night crying and telling him it was going to be all right – again, we called our vet, who said to bring him in at 6:00am. Jerry died in the car on the way to the vet. 6: What State, Country or 7: Whether or not your veterinarian informed you of the potential/possible risks/side effects BEFORE dispensing the named drug/vaccination, stating whether such information was provided verbally and/or in written form: They gave us the drug information but verbally downplayed any possible side effects. They categorically denied that Rimadyl could have killed Jerry and had a number of absolutely ridiculous suggestions as to the cause of his death – from gunshot wound to drinking antifreeze – and we’d been no further than 20 feet from Jerry the entire day of his death. I thought it was sadly ironic that the vet that confirmed our dogs death was wearing “rimadyl” embroidered scrubs. 8: Where you learned about the potential/possible risks/side effects of the drug/vaccination [i.e., www.srdogs.com, group list, friend, Internet research, TV/news, etc.]: After Jerry died, we found websites that talked about the dangers of Rimadyl. 9: State whether or not you would still have allowed the drug/vaccination to be given to your pet had you KNOWN of the potential/possible risks/side effects: NEVER. Like I said, Jerry was otherwise healthy, despite his hip pain. He died after one dose. 12: If you question the truth/accuracy of anything your veterinarian told you about your pet's health, etc., you may use this area to "air" your doubts/concerns: See above.
